Doggos have been taken for walks. Came back with few ticks. I need to kill someofbitches (Ticks, not dogs) on contact.
Any good products out there? I want ticks dead as soon as they jump on doggos. I also want to spray or treat street somehow so other doggos don’t get ticks. About 5 houses on the street. All have dogs. I am sure none will mind
I am about to go rambo and flamethrower treat entire city

No good advice. My parents dog uses Frontline, but he still gets ticks. I used Bayer Seresto collars on my dogs, which worked well for fleas (though not instantly), and they never had ticks, but they also weren’t in tick infested territory. I’m not aware of anything that kills them instantly (at least without also instantly killing the dog).
In any event, I’m of the opinion that ticks jumping on the dog is good, because it means they aren’t jumping on me. Just do a tick check after a walk in the woods.

We have Targa on R evolution for flea and ticks

Ticks are bad in our area I’ve had lymes once it was the sickest I have ever been.
Our dogs get the edible things they work great. If we’re going to be around high grass I’ll use an additional collar on them.
If I find em, I pluck em and burn them.

don’t get too ticked off

I am allergic to frontline and sersto collars say they kills ticks in 48 hours. Much too long.

I’m not sure if you’re bragging about what you have or if that’s a functioning tick killing product?

Yeah. I want something akin to electric fence around my dog. Defense shield. Turret with a 50 BMG pointed at every dang tick

Too late. Sitting on the couch and watching ticks jumping around... About to move to Antarctica. No ticks. No coronavirus.

can i come? i’ll stay 600 feet away
![]() 04/01/2020 at 09:35 |

I find them on myself far more often than the dogs if that gives you any idea of how well the stuff works

You can come and you can stay closer... but dont bring any ticks with you.
Friend of mine has lyme disease. It’s a life wrecker. I don’t want it.
I’ll take coronavirus for 1000, Alex

That’s even worse. That’s why I want to flame thrower treat the street. No more tall brush. No more tall grass. Smoldering warzone like street is more better

We use nex Ga rd chewables for our dogs, no issues, no ticks.

this guy has lime disease too

Does it keep ticks off? Does it kill them instantly? Do dogs not appeal to ticks after dogs eat these chewables?
![]() 04/01/2020 at 09:42 |

Perfect - kills on contact. No biting needed.
Thank you kindly!

Get some chickens. We never find them in the yard anymore because the chickens eat em all.

I have more ticks where I live than probably anywhere else in the world. My dog gets a shot once a year, it works great. Ticks rarely
attach, but they die almost instantly.

I can’t get my wife to take tick avoidance seriously enough. I spray her with picardin (read up on this, appears to be way better than DEET and doesn’t eat seat belts ) before any hikes and make her wash her clothes after. Most times if you take a shower after a hike they will wash away before they latch on.

Advantix doesnt work anymore, use Bravecto
or have your vet give the doggo a yearly shot.

There are foxes and coyotes in my area. Chickens would be perfect to get rid of ticks, but they would be gone in a heartbeat. Plus they would have to run around on public street. Neighbors would probably not approve.
I said to wife we should get chickens. She said coyotes would eat them. I said then we would need a lion to eat to coyotes. But now we are bordering insanity to get rid of ticks.

What do you mean it doesn’t work anymore? What are they selling then? Water?

Advantix - says no biting required for bastards to die. Dies on contact. I shall try it.
Pest control company wants to hit me up for 2k to spray some shit around. I have no idea if it will work or not

It's a tick killing product

Keep your yard mowed and encourage your neighbors to do the same - that’s a good first step. Seems like a lot of people have good suggestions. We have the Ozzman on a once-a-month chewable (can’t remember what it’s called) but I don’t think I’ve found a tick on him yet in the year we’ve had him.
I’m also strangely enthralled by the idea of the 50 BMG tick turret.

But what happens when foxes/coyotes/neighborhood dogs kill my chickens?
![]() 04/01/2020 at 10:12 |

Ticks bite, but find the dogs to taste bad or be poisonous or something, and they unlatch and fall off on their own
![]() 04/01/2020 at 10:19 |

Just spitballing, what about burning down everything outside your house? If you burn down the outdoors the ticks will die also.
![]() 04/01/2020 at 10:20 |

Advantix claims it kills on contact. no bite needed. So maybe they fall off because they dead?
I don’t want live ones jumping off dogs and onto my couch.

That will be the last option.

Can concur, gave the doggo Bravecto the last bad flea and tick year and it worked.

We use NexGard, chewable monthly “treats” (the dogs love them) and they may bite, but die and fall off. My .02

You can’t really eliminate ticks from the wild, just like you can spray for mosquitoes for that garden party you’re planning, but they’ll be back. Better to go with poisoning the dog with the Advantix.

I guess some sort of resistance gets built up by ticks or dogs. My vet stopped
recommending it a couple years ago.
![]() 04/01/2020 at 11:11 |

Do you own ticks as pets? Do they do tricks? Do you pet them? What are their names?

Interesting!
Are ticks resistant to C4 or frag grenades? Asking for a friend

Ew, I don’t like that mental image.

Hawks, are also an issue. A fox got one of our ducks before we knew what we were doing.
Nothing can get into our coop now and we only have them out during the day. We also have two dogs one of them being a 160lb mastiff which keeps a lot of animals out of the yard (although shes not the one that actually attacks) . Still foxes try to get in the coop all the time, they try to dig underneath, hit the mesh, then poop in the hole they dug.
Our yard is fenced, the duck flys into the neighbors yard every once in a while if something scares her. Everyone knows her though and they’ll just herd her back over to us.

We use a fence and dogs of our own to combat that. It really only goes down at night, so if your coop is good, your birds are too.

Back when I did farming, we used to trim birds wings - geese, chickens, ducks etc.
Kept them from flying around or away.
If you look closely to the wing feathers, you can see some parts of the stem is darker and some is lighter. Those that are lighter - sorta along the lines 1 and 2 are safe to cut without causing any issues to the bird. Wing feathers do grow back so you’d have to trim again.

We used to use Revolution but switched to Bravecto to a couple of years ago. You pay for it, but it lasts a long time and we’ve had no problems.

I checked amazon for Bravecto. I see Pravecto. Is it same? Does it kill on contact or on bite and how long does it take to kill ticks?

seems like it kills ticks eventually. Not right away
